Hi! Welcome to the website of CICE Christian Union, aka Footprints :)

Coming to an interactive whiteboard near you- Movie Night!

Picture
Slumdog Millionaire
This week, Footprints are planning a movie night. It will take place on Wednesday 21st October at 8pm in the third year lecture room. We'll be watching Slumdog Millionaire and having a wee discussion afterwards. We're trying to make the room cosy and non-lectury, so feel free to bring along duvets, cushions, pillows etc. if you want. Popcorn might just be thrown in too!

Sneak a peek at the trailer below......

The Christian Union (CU) has always been active in the college, but this year we decided to give it a bit of a revamp. So, at a planning meeting last August, Footprints was born, and we're really excited about the year to come. We have loads of activities planned, from gig nights to discussion groups, from socials to Bible Studies and from movie nights to dessert parties. Generally we'll be meeting on Wednesdays at 8pm in the Third Year lecture room, but do keep your eyes peeled around the college for posters and keep checking the events page of the website! Everybody is welcome, no matter what your beliefs, so come along and bring your friends (students from all over Dublin are invited, so its a great way to meet new people!).

So what's Footprints all about?

We decided on the title since all of us on the committee have been really encouraged by the well-known and loved poem of the same name. Some of you may have read it before, but just in case, here it is:

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back on the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it: "Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me". The Lord replied: "My son, my precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you".

What's it got to do with me?

This poem paints a beautiful picture of one man's relationship with a God who loves him to bits! We believe that God made a way for us to have such a relationship with him by sending his only son Jesus to die on the cross. When he died, he took the punishment for all our sin, which separates us from God, so that we can have a relationship with God both now and in eternity in Heaven. So God has played His part, but we need to play ours too. We can do this by asking Him to forgive us for our sins and by making our minds up to live for Him. Check out the links page, or just fire a few questions at a committee member to find out more!

John 3:16- For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
